Field days organized at Kafta Humera woreda

Humera Agricultural Research Center (HuARC) and Kafta Humera Woreda Office of Agriculture in collaboration with Benefit-SBN organized farmers field day for nearly 290 individuals, on the 21st and 23rd of September 2019. The participants included agricultural experts, development agents, researchers, large and smallholder farmers, representatives from cooperative promotion offices, administrations, women and youth affairs office and the media.
Participants visited smallholder farmers’ fields who planted sesame using cluster farming approach and farmer training centers run by the Woreda Office of Agriculture. They also visited sesame, mung bean, soya bean and sorghum fields planted using good agricultural practices.
During the field day farmers shared their experience of using improved production package to the participants.

Discussion was also made on the major challenges of the sector such as shortage of agricultural machinery, occurrence of new pests and disease, shortage of input credit and other agricultural inputs such as improved seed, marketing problem of mung bean, increase labor cost.
Out of the total participants 48 participants were women.
