Organic sesame production

Benefit-SBN in collaboration with Tsehay Farmers’ Cooperative Union and Central Gondar zone Agriculture Department organised training of trainers workshop on organic sesame production for 48 development agents and 15 agricultural experts and woreda heads on the 21st of June 2018.

Participants were convened from East Belesa, West Belesa and Kinfaz Begela Woreda Office of Agriculture

The objective of the ToT was to equip agricultural experts and development agents the knowledge and skill of organic sesame production techniques so that they can go to their localities and train the remaining development agents and sesame producer farmers.

The training focused on organic sesame production, the distinction between 20 steps sesame production and organic production techniques, components, and principles of organic production, considerations for conversion to organic agriculture and potential challenges in the conversion of such farms.

As the participants are from three new woredas were Benefit-SBN has not been supporting, a brief explanation was given to them about the support programme’s objective, intervention areas and overall experience of the programme in the last couple of years.

Benefit-SBN started to collaborate with Tsehay union and support East Belesa woreda as of the 2018 production season.

Of the total participants, 16 were female development agents.
