SBN Support Programme in collaboration with CommonSense project organized training on digital data collection method using Short Message System (SMS) for sesame farmers in northwest Ethiopia.
75 model farmers drawn from sesame producing wordeas participated in the training sessions organised at Humera and Gondar, on June 08 and 09, 2015 respectively.
The objective of the training was to improve the data collection for the monitoring and evaluation system of the SBN Support Programme through the use of more advanced technologies. The training sessions mainly focused on the practical use of cellphones to send short messages. Almost all the trainees were able to send SMS messages during the training.
The SMS data collection method will be used as a tool to collect farm household information and agronomic information. It can also be used to send specific messages for farmers about specific activities.
