BENEFIT-SBN organised a one and half- day training on the three pillar-approaches for bankers drawn from Cooperative Bank of Oromia, Addis International Bank, Commercial Bank of Ethiopia and Development Bank of Ethiopia.
The three pillars namely, business analysis, financial analysis and position of the banks, help bankers to assess whether a credit request should be answered positively or not.
In addition to a one and half day formal training session, the training includes a field visit. Trainers from Rabobank International Advisory Services (RIAS) and participants of the training from Cooperative Bank of Oromia(CBO), Metema, Humera and Gondar branch participated in the field visit.
In the field participants got the chance to assess the businesses of two primary cooperatives (Maernet and Aydolla) and three investor farmers. They discussed with managers, bored chairpersons and other responsible bodies of the cooperatives and investor farmers on their business (years of experience, member size, loan demand etc.). They labelled the businesses as average, good and excellent.
The training helped participants to identify the kind of questions that they should ask and the points in which they should look at when doing business analysis.
