Setit Humera LTD Farmers’ Cooperative Union in collaboration with Sesame Business Network (SBN) support programme arranged a one-day multi-stakeholder meeting at Humera town on the 7th of October 2013.
The meeting was organized with the objective of strengthening the relationship between the union and member primary cooperatives. It was also aimed at promoting a new business model to member primary cooperatives.
During the meeting, Mr. Abreha Gebremariam, general manager of the union, presented the main challenges and prospects of the past year. He presented the report made on PEST and SWOT analysis, current status, a new business model and future plan of the union.
Following Mr. Abreha’s presentation, participants of the meeting made a thorough discussion and this helped them to define the way forward.
Cooperatives member showed their commitment to support the plan by giving their words to supply sesame seed to the union and buy additional shares. They promised to supply 194, 1800.00 quintals of sesame seeds and buy 500 additional shares.
SBN support progrmme got the chance to present itself to the participants. Dr. Geremew Tefefe, SBN national coordinator, presented about the background of the support programme and the intervention areas and the kind of support that the programme has been giving to the sesame value chain in general, cooperative unions, and primary cooperatives in particular.
Over 80 participants drawn from western Tigray Zonal Administration, Cooperatives Promotion Office, Setit Union board, union staff and primary cooperatives and SBN staff members attended the meeting.
