Sesame Business Network (SBN) Support Programme organised sesame field visits for farmers, cooperative members, development agents, local administrators, agricultural experts at Metema and Tach Amcho Woredas of Amhara region.
The field days were arranged from August 31 to September 8, 2013, in four demonstration sites which are located at four different clusters, namely Shinfa, Genewuha Brshign, Metema-Yohannes-Kokit and Sanja clusters.
In all the field days, the Sesame Business Cluster Coaches explained about the technology packages used in the demonstration sites such as, date of planting, method of planting, seed and fertiliser rates for visitors. They also highlighted the main objectives of the SBN support programme.
What is more, those farmers who hosted the demonstration plots shared their experience to visitors during the whole process of the demonstration activities.
A total number of 209 people out of which 10 women farmers participated in the field days.
The field visit gave chance to farmers to see and witness the importance of employing improved agronomic practice such as ploughing repeatedly, row planting, using improved seed varieties, using fertiliser, tinning, and timely weeding.
